Hello Lydia from Rotterdam and THANKS for the info!! I think my problem was that I was googling "Coniston Old Man" and not "Old Man of Coniston" (or maybe I stopped looking to soon :) The explanation makes perfect sense--a word in an old language getting corrupted into the new language. Hope things are well in Rotterdam (I visited Belgium back in the 1980s. It's beautiful country and nice people--and lots of beers! I need to go back)

Lovely pics as always. I have a question: why is that fell called "Coniston Old Man"? I googled it and found nothing to explain what the "Old Man" is about. I thought maybe there was a profile of what looked like an old man as you viewed the crest, but I don't see it. Thanks in advance. Don in Charlotte NC (USA)

Always look at your fantastic photos. We have been to Britain a number of times. Love the place. my father came from London when he was eighteen. Here in Sydney it is supposed to be AUTUMN. But it is the hottest autumn since records were kept 200 years ago. John Wood.

Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha! I love the "flat out" lambs in today's sunshine--precisely my idea of the best way to enjoy every ounce of sun one can!

Howdy just wanted to give you a quick heads up and let you know a few of the pictures aren't loading correctly. I'm not sure why but I think its a linking issue. I've tried it in two different browsers and both show the same results.

"Beside the lake, beneath the trees, fluttering and dancing in the breeze" - indeed. Lovely shot today thanks Tony - have loved seeing all the daffodils recently. Gwen, south coast NSW
