What an excellent website, spent two hours reading it on my first visit, congratulations to all the committee for all their excellent work. I am the youngest of six (three sisters and two brothers) all of who attended Pembroke Grammar School from 1942 to 1958(must be a record). I been married for thirty eight years (same wife Susan)with one son Rhys. I have spent most of my life either playing or iorganising sport with Neyland Cricket and Rugby clubs and for the last thirty years Milford Haven Golf Club and I also found time to work in the insurance services for over 40 years. Looking forward to seeing my old class mates at the reunion on the 1st. I think I am one of the lucky ones living, working and playing sport all my life (and I hope for many more years) in the county of Pembrokeshire

Enjoying retirement after a very successful career in nursing. I was the last of four sisters to attend P.D. Grammar School (is there anyone still around who remembers the Knight family at the old Prospect Tavern?) Happy memories of school days in spite of the disruption of the war years. Would look forward to a reunion but doubt I would meet anyone from my era!

I read about the site in Pembrokeshire Life. They have been featuring Bush for a couple of months.
I was one of the first 7 boys who went to Bush House with Mr Hewish. Wondeful 3 years. Does anyone know where Mr Hewish is now?
Spent 8 years in dairy industry and then took a degree at Reading Uni, trained as teacher. Worked in Aylesbury after marrying (40 years now) and then went to Colombia S America as a sort of missionary.
Taught in Milton Keynes before becoming head of a primary school in Torquay. Now retired.
Great site, well done. email - nfry8@yahoo.com would be pleased to hear from any old friends.

I left the school in 1955, as an apprentice in Devonport dockyard as an electrical fitter. Moved to Cardiff when I married Karin, from Bremen, Germany. After positions in Cardiff and Birmingham emigrated to Australia (Whyalla) in 1966, moved to Canberra in 1973 to work in Defence, then 10 years in the New Parliament House as Poject officer concerned with major maintenance projects. Most people associated with the Quins would remember my father Daniel (Jock) Stewart. Would be pleased to hear from anyone from the years 1949-55, e-mail address karidann@actewagl.net.au

Firstly a big thanks to the web team for developing this excellent site. It stimulates many memories of those challenging but happy times for me having had to uproot from high school in the city Adelaide of population around one million and come to live in relatively quiet, rural Pembrokeshire. Only spent about 18 months in PGS 1967/68 (also attended Neyland Tech. for one day a week as well (for an extra bit of punishment !!).
I'm not in the '68 photo for some reason but can clearly remember many faces. A good friend in that short time was Richard Huyshe with whom I hitch hiked around southern England in 1968 and had quite an adventure. Anyone remember him with any contact details. I often think back and will always fondly remember Pembroke/PD and PGS.
Best wishes to any friends that remember me.

Lovely to see the 1962 photo. As a family we couldn't have planned it better - me 3rd from the left, my brother Richard 3rd from the right and my eldest brother Paul in the middle behind Phant. Does anyone else remember Phant driving his Rover car peering between steering wheel and dashboard?

After school:
1. Went to Art College in Bromley, Kent with Christine Williams
2. Worked briefly in Admin Office at Pembroke Power Station
3. Joined WRAC as an oficer
4. Went back to Teacher Trg Coll in Retford, Notts
5. Taught in Worksop, Notts and Malvern, Worcs
6. Retired on ill-health in Oct 2009
7. Own and run Restaurant in Worcs (www.theloungeathodsons.co.uk)

Looking forward to the reunion in May 2010 at Cleddau Bridge Hotel

Comments:

Joined Pembroke Grammar from Whitland GS in Sept 1970 as a Bush Boy (13 years old and studying the Agricultural (tech) stream). Lots of memories of Bush House and the school, mostly dousing myself in Brut or Hai Karate (remember them) and hoping to attract anything female (anything remotely human and female that is) at the School Discos. It didn't often work. Could have been the haircut I suppose - that was quite agricultural as well, in an ovine sort of way.
Lasting memories: playing my copy of "Band on the run" on the sixth-forth centre's Stereo unit while others were trying to play Led Zep, ELP or Man or anything 'progresive', and it not being appreciated much. Also Vanessa Heap's Birthday Party (or at least 20 minutes of it before I passed the point of no return with my friends Captain Morgan and his sister Brandy). I don't think I made much of an impression overall so don't expect hordes of "Oh yes, I remember when you did..." responses, mainly because I didn't do much. Left farming school, joined the Royal Navy and ploughed the oceans for a few years. Natural progression really. C Ya!

Great to see old friends on the photos. Popped to Pembroke in the half term.Miss Barafundle,Fresh West, called at the cafe in Bosherston for coffee and teacake chatted with Vi Weston fancy she's still there and she got the MBE and Mrs Brown in Pembroke chip shop. I'm teaching at Derwen College, a residentail college for students with learning disabilties/difficulties. I won't be working like Vi Weston and Mrs Brown would rather have a little holiday home in Cyprus!!!!

Fantastic site. Congratulations to all concerned. I feel a bit like a kid sneaking in to an x-rated film at Haggers cinema, as I didn't actually go to PGS but joined the Comprehensive School from LLanion. (Two years after amalgamation I believe.) I fully expect to be drummed off the comments board for the young upstart that I am! Very interested to see the 1968 photograph. Not least because my oldest sister (linda) is student number 172. This must have been weeks or even days after we moved to PD from Glasgow. Delighted to see on that picture many familiar teachers who were there during my time. Cyril Nelson was head then, Ricky Sabido, HGB (Gwyn) Davies, Thumper Powell, Dewi Ellis Williams, Jim Smith Johnny Harris, GK Davies (music), Mrs Tappley, Vernon Hughes, Mrs Brace, Miss Mary Lewis. Two most influntial for me were the fantastic, dear Emlyn Lloyd ( true old school- in every sense- working class boy made good,) who once reminded me that I, like him had not been born with a silver spoon in my mouth and needed to take advantage of the opportunity I had. The other was the truely great Mansell Thomas. A fantastic man.
It is noticable to read how quickly things changed, particularly attitudes and methods, by the time I started there. Things were different, perhaps standards dropped due to the numbers of pupils, but I still feel that some of the staff who worked ther in the late 70s and 80s possibly didn't share the ambitions of their predecessors.
I myself have been working as a primary school teacher for the last 13 years in Essex. I agree with many posters who rightly point out many aspects of our education would never be tollerated now. Whether that is a good or bad thing is open to discussion...
Once again, congratulations on this fantastic site. I wish you well and hope to see it expanded to include post merger pictures - just to keep us youngsters happy.
