I was really excited to hear of `The Penvro`, and can`t wait for the reunion on May 1st, where I hope to meet up with some old friends again. I first went to Bush in 1958 and then moved to Surrey in 1963,wher I finished my education at a grammar school there - not as much fun as in Pembroke!! After leaving school I worked in a bank in Purley,Surrey. In 1966 I met Michael, we got married in 1968, have a son and daughter and three grandchildren. We now live in Suffolk, happily retired, and spend a lot of time abroad following the England cricket team - and having good holidays at the same time! My email address is jennyaldir@hotmail.co.uk I would love to hear from anyone who remembers me!

A brilliant site, well done to everyone concerned. Have lived in Ascot for 30 years. We have two children and two grandchildren.Retired from Nursing in 2004 having spent the last seven years of them as a Child Protection Nurse. Do not cope with retirement very well, so spend some time working in the medical centre of a local Independant Boarding school. Get back to Wales quite often as my sister lives in PD.

Wasted my time and other peoples at school but thanks to the help of Idris Cleaver and hard work I have enjoyed an extremely colourful life . I am the father of 5 daughters from two marriages All five have graduated at University and my son Andrew is in the Sixth form in Caerphilly where believe it or not Ian Kilcoyne is the Head Master.I have very fond memories of my 4 years at Bush Grammar and would dearly like to chat with old school friends . I have been self employed since 1985 and run a sucsefull Event Catering business in Cardiff .Phill Pryse and I got together for our 50th birthday celebrations and keep in touch sharing a few guitar chords and new songs.

My father was in the Army and posted to Pembroke Dock in 1962. Having passed my 11+ I was immediately dispatched to Pembroke Grammar School. No transport. Had to walk it. My sisters and I created headline news when we decided to run away from home during the terrible winter of 1963. We walked into Pembroke and spent the night sleeping in a railway carriage left unattended in a siding. We were eventually 'recaptured' by a coach driver who spotted us walking to Tenby! We were stunned to discover that all police and army in the area had been out searching for us throughout the night and most of the following day. I did not stay at the School for long. I was unable to settle. I was a regular truant. Not the fault of the School. It was just me. I cannot remember the name of the Headmaster but I do recall he was a kindly soul who was very understanding when I made the decision to leave and attend Coronation Secondary School instead. Really only one name comes to mind. Jayne Goodrich. Dont ask me why but I can picture her to this day.

I enlisted into the Army at the age of 15 and retired after 26 years having had a very successful career. I then joined the Police and finally retired from uniform in 2005. I now work for the police as a civilian administrator. I am very happily married and also a very proud grandfather. I doubt whether anyone will remember me but if you do ...................hello!

Comments:

This was my first high school and I loved it. It was a most special experience which I cherish.

I have memories (which I hope are accurate) of:
- my first ever school uniform with a black blazer and smart gold braid and embroidered badge - I felt very smart wearing it
- collecting milk from the farm for the teachers' tea in the domestic science block
- walking through tall sweetcorn growing in a field, which I'd never seen before
- blue hydrangeas flowering in the grounds
- the fantastic plays put on by the older pupils - they seemed very professional to me
- singing in the brilliant school choir and touring around various churches in the area giving concerts plus the warmth and friendship of older pupils towards us young ones
- reciting a poem in the Eisteddfod and being commended
- buying warm jam buns from the baker's van that came into the school grounds at break time
- a really nice group of friends
- doing well in class (things went a bit downhill at the next school!)

I was only there for two years, but it was a super experience. My parents then felt it would be better for me to attend the school in Tenby, to cut down on the bus journey as we'd moved to Manorbier, but I would have much preferred to carry on going to Pembroke Grammar school. We moved to Wiltshire a year later, so I changed school again. That's army life for you!

Never went to PGS but my cousins all did. They are Barb #44, Pauline #140 and Alan ##164 in the long photo of 1958.
I spent a lot of my summer vacations at my uncle and aunts on Pembroke Main Street. My uncle Frank owned the local butchers shop and after his death my cousin Alan ran it until it sold.
My cousins all live in the Haverfordwest area and as far as I can see have not entered their names or comments in the book. I learnt of this website from my nephew Steve Bowen of Hook.
My mother was born in the army barracks in Pembroke Dock and when she and my father retired, they moved to Lamphey where they lived until they passed on.

I got in touch with Heather Lomax via Friends Reunited and she sent me the 56 photo.Since my father had been in the RAF and I had left after 2 years (my sister Julia is No 243 & was 2 years ahead of me)I was so surprised that I knew every face! Unfortunately I couldn't put any names to the faces! So its great that you have all worked so hard to "fill in the blanks" and now I look at the photo so often that I think I remembered them all myself! I remember the Eisteddfods and the choirs and verse speaking- who remembers learning "Welsh Incident"? I did it years later as a monologue in a village drama production! I still treasure Miss A R Lewis Davies's "Up the Airy Mountain" and thank her for making me learn to love (and to remember!)so much poetry. I remember playing tennis with Christine Lewis - why was that photo taken Christine? What about the ghost at Bush House?I remember too many things to ever have space to write them all down! We LOVED PGS and were devastated when we heard that we were moving to a GIRLS school in Hitchin. Julia then went off to London Uni to read chemistry and I went off to Teacher's training college - it was a family tradition!I married Malcolm and we moved from Herts up to Yorkshire.I taught primary children and drama and then specialised in children with special needs (anyone who remembers my ability with Maths will know why I could empathise with children with learning difficulties!)for 21 years and then on our return south began running part of Cambridgeshire's County SEN Service. After 31 years I went freelance for 5 years but retirement is great! Have two nutty chocolate labradors, my garden is my passion and we get very involved with village life back here in my home county of Norfolk.I'm looking forward to showing Malcolm all the beauty of Pembrokeshire when we visit in May 2010.

What an excellent website, spent two hours reading it on my first visit, congratulations to all the committee for all their excellent work. I am the youngest of six (three sisters and two brothers) all of who attended Pembroke Grammar School from 1942 to 1958(must be a record). I been married for thirty eight years (same wife Susan)with one son Rhys. I have spent most of my life either playing or iorganising sport with Neyland Cricket and Rugby clubs and for the last thirty years Milford Haven Golf Club and I also found time to work in the insurance services for over 40 years. Looking forward to seeing my old class mates at the reunion on the 1st. I think I am one of the lucky ones living, working and playing sport all my life (and I hope for many more years) in the county of Pembrokeshire
