Bob, I have followed you all 4 trips and I am sorry that your 4th had to end like this. I am sure you had flashbacks of Mississppi. I am thankful the horses, dog and you and your girlfriend are OK. I will miss your writings and your pictures. I looked forward everyday to hear about your adventures. Good luck in the next chapter of your life. I will be checking in for the epilogs.

I am sure the flashbacks of your big accident earlier took the fun out of your travels. You have been on a hard march. This is an example of how in an instant the direction of our lives can change.
It has been obvious that there has been a part of your life needs some attention. The relationship you have been holding close and quiet must need some light. Live your life for those you love. We all care what happens to you and yours. Hope your blog continues, you have added so much to our lives, but you must also have yours. Don't know how many of us would have been willing to share as much of their personal lives as you have.
Through you there are a lot of people who have seen and tasted parts of this great country we probably will never know on our own.

Howdy Friends of W.T. & Amigos.....

They are O.K. !! Small fender bender south of Lake Havasu City. Some old lady didn't understand...Flashing Yellow Lights mean ' Caution - Slow Down ' !! She banged the back corner of the trailer & there was a temporary ' Rodeo '. I guess all the moonbeams haven't gone to Miss. & Ala. As comedian Ron Smith often says..." You Can't Fix Stupid " !!

Bob tells me He & the lads & equipment are at the rodeo grounds in S. Havasu City.

Just a small correction. I've never had the pleasure of meeting Bob. But, my wife and I were very happy to provide his "lads" a few bales of hay via the good folks at a local Lake Havasu Feed store, properly named "Hungry Horses". Hope their stay in Havasu is a good one. Really sorry I can't be there. My wife may stop by though.

Hey Pop,

Not only did he not add the miles, after his repairs to the wagon on his day off, he must have installed a time machine, because he went from the twelfth of November to the twenty third in just 24 hours. Ha Ha Must have been strong bloody marys. The other day a lady did not believe the horses could pull uphill at 19 miles per hour. Shucks that is a piece of cake compared to traveling 11 days in 24 hours......now that is really fast. I bet Butterbean's head is still spinning after going to sleep one day and waking up 11 days later. Happy trails to you all.

Bob - Afraid you're going to find AZ 95 stays well east of Lake Havasu after you cross the Bill Williams River and the trek from there to Lake Havasu City is pretty barren. Spoke with some very nice people today in Lake Havasu City about your journey. Particularly Kathy Covert, owner of a local feed store called "Hungary Horses". She and her friend Sandy Nagel, director of the Rodeo grounds at Sara Park on the south end of town, are looking forward to your visit and making you and the "boys" feel at home. Safe Travels. Sorry I can't be there to meet you and your lads. Continued Safe Travels - Steve

Hello Wagonteamster. Man, it is sure nice getting off that desert. Got sorta warm packed in here on the Shotgun Seat. When we peeked at the luxurious digs you have found for us to camp tonight, next to a beautiful river even, all of us breathed a sigh of relief. Especially after an exciting ride when the big boys shot off like a rocket up and down those dips. Poor old Butterbean had to have a strong grip on all of us ladies to keep us from flying out the back. We are all settled down now, thank you. The pictures are tremendous. You sure are capturing the scenery real well. I am glad you have the coverage to share with your fans. I know they enjoy them. Oh, just a reminder, your inbox is overloaded. Might want to check it out when you can. We hope you have a great time down and the horses get to rest and enjoy being what they are. BEAUTIFUL HORSES!!! God bless for sharing. Hi Bob, glad you made it to the aqueduct and found the precious liquid! I was a bit concerned when we exchanged cards and discussed this part of your trek while you were in Yucca Valley. When you make the abandoned Rice townsite (where the railroad Y crosses the highway) another leg of the aqueduct will parallel the north side of the highway and tracks for several miles should you need to tank up again before reaching Vidal Junction and signs of habitable structures again.
I enjoyed reading through your blog and learning more about this and your other trips. Thanks for sharing some of your story and time with me in Yucca Valley. Brief though it was, it made a lasting impession and I look forward to following your blog during the remainder of your travels. Travel safe, I hope our paths cross again someday. Blessings, Fireman John

Comments:

Hi Bob,
A friend in Taos sent me your website address and I've been having great fun reading your daily log from trip #3! I work for a young man who buys cars at different car auctions around the country so we often fly or drive there to pick them up and drive them back here to northern Minnesota. In the few years I've been doing this I've made several trips from San Diego and other points southwest driving cars back. My only sister lives in Mesa, AZ so I usually include a few days with her along the way. I've fallen totally in love with the desert and the whole southwest in it's many many fascinating facets---your trip pictures bring back tons of fun memories as I love taking back highways and seeing the countryside, stopping to take pictures and explore wherever the notion takes me. I've followed highways to dead ends and had the time of my life seeing things I'd never have had the chance to see otherwise! I'm SO envious of your being able to do this from behind two horses at such a wonderful slow pace! Drivers of other vehicles have a tendency to get really irked when you drive at that pace with a car! The quiet you must enjoy, with only the sound of horses hooves, must be an incredible experience. You get to hear all the birds and coyotes and other wildlife, especially at night when you camp---what a treat! I've often slept in the car, but being a woman alone is a whole different story so I usually sleep with all the windows rolled up tight & covered, in places like truck stops or WalMart parking lots, where it's safer than out somewhere isolated and anyone could try to get in the car. LOL---once I got to rent a real teepee (already set up) in the campground at the entrance of Bryce Canyon Nat'l Park! Had to rent a sleeping bag & ground pads and wear every stitch of clothing I had with me to stay warm that night. The temp in Henderson, Nevada had been over 100º when I flew down there to pick up the car but it dropped to 40º that night in the Park! You've probably been through plenty of those kinds of temp extremes, too, huh?
Having owned horses myself most of my life what you're doing is thrilling to read about, Bob! I look forward to exploring the rest of your site!
Stay safe and have fun!
Kathy

11-4-'12 Well, been called a rat before, but didn't know there realy was one!!!!!! Ha, Ha, Wishing you best of travels, many of us would like to do the same!Being 86 years old, I've waited too long! But have had much experience with horses and mules when growing up on the farm in Mo. My great grandfather was a mule trader during the Civil War, sold to both sides!! I travel some with a '96 Dodge Cummins pulling a 1954 Spartan trailer, ther'll never be a better trailer! ===Fred=== ghpG ?

We were showing a visitor some of the quirkier sights in Joshua Tree, CA, when we passed you on the highway, the quirkiest sight of the day. Of course we pulled over to take pictures. Love what you're doing. A picture of you and link to your site are now on my Facebook page.

Good by dear Applejack....You remind me so much on my little boy Feller who passed in 2006, coloring and all.

you ended you blog stating that the world is a wonderful place. Yes it is - when looked at as you do rather than by watching the 'News'.
The way you are sharing your journey with all of us sure helps to restore my faith in human nature. I've always believed in the basic good of folks everywhere but when all we hear is crime, hate, terror, evil, etc, its hard to keep a good attitude.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
God bless your travels - (and move over Butterbean you're crowding the rest of us, hang on Sue)

Sorry to hear about AppleJacks passing. I have been fortunite enough to have many great dogs in my life and one amazing horse. My husband and I recently got a horse after 18 years of marriage and he loves her to death. We hope to soon get another one so we will be able to trail ride together.
