I grew up in Hodge Hill Birmingham and I knew Carl as Colin Tooley.I think he went to Saltley Grammar School and I went to Central Grammar School with John Lodge from the Moody Blues He went into rock and roll and I went into newspapers then television. I slightly knew Sue Hanson when I worked at ATV in Brum where she was a star on Crossroads. It was quite a blow to hear he had passed and I had no idea he had toured Australia. God bless you mate wherever you are. You once came to a party at Lynn Eastons in Rymond Road Hodge Hill and impressed all the girls by playing three chords on your guitar. So many fine Brummy rockers have gone... just recently Jim Capaldi the drummer. I suppose we are all getting up there. All the best Jeff Watson

CARL'S DEPARTURE FROM THIS PLANE CAME TO ME AS A TREMENDOUS SHOCK. IT WAS NOT UNTIL TWO WEEKS AGO THAT I READ IT SOMEWHERE,WHILE I WAS IN YOU TUBE I BELIEVE, LISTENING TO "SAN DIEGO"...I NEVER HAD THE PLEASURE TO SEE HIM NOR THE MOVE NOR ANY OTHER GROUP HE PLAYED/JAMMED WITH,BUT ALWAYS HAD A TREMENDOUS ADMIRATION FOR HIM AS A MUSICIAN,SINGER AND THE MAN HIMSELF.I REMEMBER WHEN "SAN DIEGO" FIRST CAME OUT THE RUDE AND UNKIND CRITICISM FROM THE BRITISH PRESS(AS USUAL,AMERICA ALWAYS MISSES A SUPREME TALENT WHEN ONE COMES ALONG !!!)AND HOW SCHMALTZY AND CORNY THEY TOUGHT CARL WAS.TO ME, AFTER THE MOVE SPLIT WE REALLY GOT TO APPRECIATE CARL ON HIS OWN TALENT AND HIS INCREDIBLE VOICE.TOO BAD THEY NEVER MADE IT TO EITHER LA NOR CHICAGO WHILE THEY WERE TOGETHER.MY HEART BROKE IN PIECES WHEN I FOUND OUT. I ONCE WAS IN ENGLAND IN 1969 AND FELL MADLY IN LOVE WITH A LAD IN ESSEX WHO WAS KILLED IN A CAR ACCIDENT AT ONLY 19, AND HE LOOKED EXACTLY LIKE HIM. WHAT A HANDSOME MAN !!!! CHARLIE,I KNOW YOU'RE IN PARADISE SURROUNDED BY ANGELS. THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART FOR ALL THOSE BEAUTIFUL SONGS...WE WILL NEVER FORGET YOU

Carl's voice is till ringing in my ears. he was such a wonderful singer. He is sorely missed. I saw him play live in a concert, entitled "Heroes & Villains". It was to celebrate an anniversary of Radio One. He was backed by a group called "Magnum". Of course he sang "Flowers In The Rain". Awesome!!
Love to his wife Sue and son Jack. X X

Best Wishes

Saw Carl in Blackpool with the Hollies, what a fabulous voice. Also saw him with the Move in the sixties. He was a very handsome man and wonderful performer, such a tragedy that he died so young.

Sorry I missed your birthday Carl. I was thinking of you on your birthday, but sadly my son Gareth's girlfriend died August 12th and I have been helping him. Hopefully you will meet her in heaven and take care of her. Thank you for the lovely memories I have of you. Love Jude xx
