I went to 13 schools in 11 years so the details are a bit hazy but i did win a class IIIB prize (Albatross book of Verse which i still treasure) and remember having fabulous school dinners, playing hockey which i never could understand the point of, and having to wear a beret which i hated (still hate hats!). My father was in the army and we lived in the Pennar compound, sometimes we twagged off school and hitched our skirt waistbands up to look cool and hip! I married at 18, divorced at 25 and had a great career, no kids, but lots of happy times, - currently still working and living with partner in West London. Am keen for anyone who remembers the strange freckly ginger nut with specs to contact me i ivvey@hotmail.com

Thanks xxx

This is a good idea. It would be interesting to hear from pupils who attended Pembroke Dock County School in the 1930s and 40s - I'm sure there'll be people who recognise either me or my sisters - Moreen, Pat or Shirley. We've already had one get-together in PD at the Cleddau Hotel some many years ago and another one would be something to look forward to!

This website must be the result of a great deal of time and effort - to excellent effect. Please keep it up. The site stirs many memories, not all of them good!, but one has to acknowledge that every effort was made to give us a good education. It takes hindsight to appreciate that.

I look forward to seeing more photos, and also more registrations. Its fascinating to see how we all were back then. Perhaps we should add current photographs to see if we are recognisable now. I somehow doubt it, I don't remember having white hair in 1961!!

What a great site!!I was in tears looking at the old photos of folk that I had forgotten about. We all have a story to tell, some more 'colourful than others'I bet! I started in Pennar School, then after passing the dreaded 11 plus went on to 'grammar'.My early memories of 'Bush' was having to cycle in the cold and the rain. But those wonderful school diners (so different today)were something I will never forget. The Tuck Shop used to sell those packs of Nibbits, which I have never found since. I left in 1960 to go nursing which I did for 40 years. I am now retired, married to a local lad called Jack and we both enjoy life living in a cottage, out 'in the sticks', with roses 'round the door. Once again, a big thank you for the site, warm regards from Cumbria Sylvia jumoff at gmail.com
ps. I, also, have a photo of Mrs Rogers' class in Pennar Infants if anyone wants a copy

After leaving Pennar Junior, I had seven very happy years at the school and "straddled" the building site and transformation into the new comprehensive. I moved to London to university in 1974 and went into teaching. I'm now Headteacher of Chancellor's School in Hertfordshire. My wife is also a headteacher. We have two sons, the elder of whom is now living in Wales, studying Sports Science at UWIC. Both treasure their Welsh heritage, and have won international athletics vests for Wales.

I entered Bush Grammar School when my family moved from Haverfordwest. I entered form 3A for the final half term of the year, coming from Taskers High School for Girls, and stayed until 1967, completing A levels in Botany, Zoology and Chemistry. I was a lazy little toad but the school did well for me and equipped me to pursue a career in teaching. I am presently Assistant Headteacher/ Inclusion Leader at a Middle School in Suffolk and will be retiring in July. My husband and I plan to spend the first 9 months of retirement in the sun in Cyprus. Who knows what will happen after that?!!
I have 2 sons, one of whom works in ICT and one who trained as a web-designer but was made redundant when his firm collapsed during this recession and is now retraining as a tattooist - not the career I would have chosen for him but he is very happy with his life!
My husband and I enjoy walking and are active swimmers. I competed for many years as a swimmer and water skier but knee injuries now limit me to a fairly sedate style of walking and swimming only.
My brothers and sisters still live in the Pembroke area and nephews and nieces have all attended the comprehensive school.I have 2 brothers and two sisters - Peter, Janet, John and Mandy. Janet and I attended Bush Grammar School. Peter and John attended the Coronation school. Mandy is 12 years younger than me and so attended the school once it had become a comprehensive.

I went to East End and then to Bush Grammar school and left school in 1963 to work for the Pembroke Town Council on Bush Street in Pembroke Dock. I joined the Pembrokeshire Police Force in 1966 and was stationed in Haverfordwest where I met and married my husband who was an exchange officer at RNAS Brawdy from the U.S. Navy. In 1970 we moved to the U.S. and retired to Bedford, Virginia in 1983. We have two children and two grandchildren and live on a little farm and raise goats.

1961. Junior school, Eastend Pembroke. I loved Pamela William's lessons and Alex Tapley's. No sicknotes for Games in those days. I once saw Mrs T. rip up a sicknote . It was from a parent! Imagine doing that today.

Anybody out there remember the traffic lights on Phant's door? Red meant that he was busy, green meant enter. He used to sit hunched over his huge desk with fag smoke drifting up his nose.

I returned as a member of staff in 1980 and in the beginning I couldn't get used to calling them by their christian names. However, I quickly realised how normal they were. Some even had two voices. One for teaching, and a broad Pembroke one for socialising. I am retired now. Thirty two years was quite enough.
