Hello Bob,
Really enjoyed reading your book about your adventures behind your horses. Wonderful! I'm in the process of rebuilding (turntable and some good photos) a wagon and hope to put a couple of our heavies in front and do some trips in SE Australia. We'll keep checking in from time to time.

Sorry for you lost of your Grandpa "Jake", and happy for your good fortune to have "Jake" as your grandpa for so many years. I knew an old rancher who also preserved the genetics of Percherons. He came up from the mid-west somewhere, years ago, and ranched in Saskatchewan and came to British Columbia to retire to warmer weather and breed Percherons and Morgans. His name was Jonathan Fox. Wonderful man of that era...and quite a character too.

So good to see you hitched up again and out making miles. So good to see pictures again. Always a delight. Happy to hear your plan to keep traffic conscious of the slow traveling trailer behind the caravan. With the lights and the slow moving sign, surely whey will also see the horse attached to the trailer "walking" now. Happy trails and preparations.

Happy belated birthday Bob.Just discovered that you are back on the blog, and we are very happy to be able to follow your travels around the country. It has been a very interesting read. We were heartbroken when we read that you had that terrible accident in Mississipee and lost some of your lovely horses. Glad that you recovered and have been able to continue your dream. Looking forward to reading about your new adventures. Good Luck in the future.

Message to Dick Talbert - I tried something new last year. An Aussie friend recommended it. Apple Cider Vinegar soaked into their grain. I have thousand pounds horses and 6-800 pound donkeys, so put 2 tables spoons for the horses and 1 table spoon for the donkeys once a day. We were having a terribly year for biting flies and in three days they quit. Continued eating the poor mules next door terrible, but not a problem with Horses or donkeys here. The Apple Cider Vinegar, I am told, needs to be unpasteurized and have the mother in it (floating apple flesh) to be ideal. After 10 days I dropped to once every three days and it worked all summer. My Aussie said giving it to them every day, nothing bothered them, they didn't even get a bot egg on them. I will up it to every day in bot season this year, I cleaned a few bot eggs off of two of the three horses. It is also healthy for every part of the equine. Thought I would pass on this option to you. Best wishes on your drives.

55th some years ago, I feel I must warn you of this. In a another year or so,
you will notice that it was a whole lot easier to push 55 than it is to drag it around.

May the sun always warm your backside and the days be good. ljr

Hello to Bob, Jacquie and the rest of the Wagonteamster Family!

The redesigned web page looks great! I'm excited to see things beginning to wake up and get moving again! I hope to catch up with Bob and Jacquie somewhere along the Columbia River, so I'll be reading the blog with great anticipation.

This weekend I attended the First Annual Washington Draft Horse and Mule Association Spring Plowing Bee in Ellensburg, WA. We were hosted by Olmsted Place State Park and they did a great job offering a field to plow, and other facilities for a large gathering of horses and people. It was a 2-day event and we had big beautiful teams of Belgians, and Percherons, with a Clydesdale and a team of Fjords thrown in for good measure! It was a wonderful display of how to manage multiple horses and pull old fashioned single-blade plows. My hat is off to their teamster skills.

Spring is finally making itself visible here in the Skagit Valley. We have fields of daffodils in bloom, but the tulips are a bit behind schedule. We've had record rains here in March so the fields are really wet. I'm sure you have also heard about the Oso mud slide. We are still digging that out, and will be for months to come. The slide area is about 20 miles from me, so I'm not involved in the disaster area. But it's close enough to make me cast an uneasy eye toward my local hillsides.

Take a deep breath and get ready for Spring Cleaning!
Connie

Hey Fellow Tavelers, If you are on Face Book, our glorious leader left a picture of himself at work. He is in a white jump suit with a hard hat and says he a another worker found the tool they had been hunting. He will be leaving his job shortly and is planning the trip. It is nice to know we will soon be on the road again. I AM READY, WAGONTEAMSTER!!! You can hitch up the amigos anytime. I will be watching this page with baited breath. It is nice to see your dad is still going stron and so is your grandpa. You are very lucky. I also saw way back where your mom also left you a message. You have a pretty good gene pool going there. Hey Mr. Fixit.... You got them spent fuel rods out of there yet ?? Could you send one up here in a big bathtub?? I promise to keep it cool with the 12' snowbanks that surround me. We have had 103" of snow & it's still FEB. Another 4" & we will be #2 all-time, behind 1951-52 (my senior year in highschool). I read today the leader in the lower penn. is Maple City, a few miles Nor. of Empire & on the hill between Suttons Bay & Leland...over 205".
See, I told ya, write to the 'peeps' & they will answer ya. I'm trying to find a day without snow, ice or wind so I can go visit Jake...maybe Thur. or Fri. If ya get a couple days off, give me a 12 hour notice & we'll give the Beltline Bar another chance to get the food correct. Take Care,.. Pop

Hi to all and that includes our Wagonteamster. I was beginning to think he had liked Hawaii so much, he stayed there. Nice to see some old faithful's looking forward to another trip. Sounds like we may be loading up and taking turns crowding in that shotgun seat again. I am looking forward to it yet know that I will miss sharing it with Butterbean. I hope he is looking down and giving us a thumbs up. It has begun to change a bit here in Indiana. I see buds swelling on our trees. It won't really be spring until I hear the frogs in the ditches or near ponds singing loud and clear. They always signal Spring has sprung. LOL. So since our Wagonteamster says the end of May, I will pack my virtual bag with a change of virtual jeans and some tees. A hoodie or two, waterproof poncho, boots, socks, undies, toothbrush, and other necessary virtual items. I am ready to roll. See you in May.

Hey Bob!

Welcome back! I'm excited to hear about future plans! Don't be surprised if a silver Jeep pulls up behind you somewhere on the Columbia River! It will just be me! Sorry to hear you are in Michigan at this time. The weather there has been cruel. I saw where the Free Press said it's been the 4th snowiest winter on record. Possibly 3rd by now! I grew up in Michigan, in the Detroit area. I used to hang out in the Lansing area as a kid, so I know all about the snow! As an adult, I prefer the snow up in the mountains where it belongs! I hope you've had some time to visit with your family out in the Ionia area? I had an extended visit to my family in the Detroit area last fall, so I know how satisfying the chance to visit can be. It's good to hear that Jacquie and the Lads are doing well. Were the Lads getting a little girthy on the alfalfa? By this time in the winter I'm beginning to feel a little girthy myself! Sorry to be so chatty, but I'm just happy to hear from you. I was beginning to think you might have fallen in a hole somewhere. Hurry home.

Connie
