Hi Bob, there are a bunch of us drafters/teamsters in Pennsylvania who would like to meet you sometime. We are in Southeastern PA - Lancaster, Chester and Berks Counties (some of us are Pennsylvania Dutch/Amish/Mennonite). If you are ever out this way, please get in touch. Honoretter@aol.com or 610-368-3822. Our claim to fame is driving a 4 horse hitch of Percherons to the top of Mount Washington in New Hampshire - was fun - not near at all close to your adventures, but it was an adventure for us. We hope you and your horses are doing well. Best regards, Judy Paisley

Hi Everyone!

I'm home from the Fair! No, I didn't win the raffle horse, and neither did Larry! Oh well, such is life.....However, it was a fun, interesting and educational week anyway. Those draft horses were absolutely magnificent!! Huge, regal and gentle. What a creation! I'll never really be able to get my fill of them.

I learned I'm not the camper I used to be! I need a good bed at night now. I can't deny it any longer, I have to get a camper of some sort. Tenting doesn't do it for me anymore.

I learned I can wash my hair and bathe the essential parts in less than 2 Quarts of warm water! Needless to say, I took a nice hot shower when I got home!

Good walking shoes are a gift to your feet. I have a good pair. Don't be afraid to invest a little money in a good pair of shoes.

Fairs in late August require a hat with a brim. Luckily, I have one of those too! But I bought a silly little parasol just because....

So, Friends, get out and enjoy your local, county and state fairs this season. Support your local farmers, 4H, FFA, businesses and agricultural organizations! We all need to eat.

Love to all!
Connie

Hi Bob, I'm wondering if your going to replace Bill and Bob, for that matter how old is Doc.
Doc seems to be a one horse show.
I have enjoyed your travels very much, I'm hoping you will be able to continue your wanderings.
Thanks for the memories.

Hey Larry!

I'm working on them! But if you win, I'm gonna be crying in my beer that night! I want that horse in the worst way! or maybe the best way! Generally speaking tho, my luck doesn't tend to run that way, so I'm rooting for you, buddy!

Hello to the Wagonteamster...or is that ex-wagonteamster? Sigh! Hi to part of the "family", Larry, Norma, Katz, Dottie and Connie. Nice to see all of you again. Connie, good luck on your raffle. Bob, it is wonderful to still be seeing the scenery and all of the fun you are having. Monty is a beautiful horse and Brandy is too. I envy you guys. I would love to ride again, but guess the only way that will happen is vicariously with you. Thanks for all the pictures and descriptions. I even loved seeing the dust you stir up chasing those cows. Keep those pictures coming. God bless all of you that still follow the Wagonteamster.

Hi Everyone!

Summer in Western Washington finally arrived! We've had a few weeks of lovely weather. Just enough to wear a sleeveless shirt long enough to even out my farmer's tan! Last Spring I joined the Washington Draft Horse and Mule Association and have been having a fun time with that. Looks like I'm going to be working the Raffle the Association sponsors each year at the Evergreen State Fair at the end of August. This year's raffle grand prize is a 3 year old Clydesdale filly that is green broke to harness, single and double, and to the saddle. I bought 10 tickets myself! I've had my hands on this filly, and she's a peach. Here's hoping I can manage 6 days of State Fair! I'll report back!

Here's to winning the raffle!!

Bob,
I'm 14 years old now but years ago you stayed in my back yard, you set up the fences and got comfortable. You told me and my family stories. I found you so interesting. I was so happy you stayed with us especially with my love of horses. You had the most beautiful horses I have ever seen I remember waking up in the morning before I had to go to school just wanting to stay home so I could look at them all day. You are very inspiring and just a extremely nice and caring person. I hope you have the best time on your new adventures.

Hello Wagonteamster. I sure miss the old times. I check in and see some of the old crowd is still checking in too, but a lot have found other pastures in which to wander. I do hope the Amigos are doing well in their retirement. I know you still take Doc out once in awhile on your adventures close to home and I enjoy seeing and reading of your new adventures. Do you still use B.O.B. or Bill in anyway to keep them in shape? Monty seems to have matured well over the winter. Why not put some pictures on here of the boys, Hershey, and the improvements you have made to the place. I know there are mini's to see and the boys barn. I bet your water fall flower bed was beautiful to see this spring and now summer. At least it would be something to let us know you are still alive. God bless you, Jacquie, Doc, the Belgians, Hershey, and all you hold dear.

Hi Bob, Have been keeping up with you for a very long time. I love the horses and following your adventures. My own carriage horse (Spotted Draft) passed last summer, and I miss her lots. I have also been interested in your powerplant adventures and was wondering if you might be interested in a book a friend of mine wrote. The book is about the plutonium plant in Hanford, WA. Not far from your location as the crow flies. The book is called: Hanford's Secret Clouds of Despair by Claudia Hagen. Here is a link to her website if you are interested: http://www.claudiahagen.com/products.html

Enjoy your summer, keep on fishing and working those cattle. Love doing both, and I have done plenty in past years. Give my best to ol' Bill and B.O.B. and, of course, that precious Doc. Monty, Hershey Bar and the other little dog, too.

Bob a Veterinarian friend of mine that s trying to retire told me the other
day that he had bought a small a small boat and had taken up fishing. He tells me that
he really does enjoy getting on the water and and dropping a line in and just relaxing.
He tells me he goes out about three times a week so far and is starting to get the hang of it.
As a matter of fact if he still likes it by the end of September, he may even buy a hook for that fishing pole.

May the sun come up every day just to warm your backside. ljr.

Hi, Bob:

It's been awhile since I've written...just wanted to say that I'm glad to see you're still traversing our beautiful country with your furry friends. Glad that Bill is officially retired...he's been a good partner in your travels and I am sure you will miss him being with you on the road, but you'll bond with new horses quickly as you have that kind of heart (and horses do, too) and I'm sure you'll feel good knowing that your old friends are safe and comfy and relaxing after years of devoted service. You take excellent care of your horses and that makes me even happier and prouder to be a fan of you and your travels. Admittedly, it had been awhile since I read your blogs, but now I am up to speed again. I'll be watching for your future travel stories. What memories you are making and sharing with others...it's such a blessing and I thank you for that. Please accept my condolences for the recent loss of your grandfather...I'm sure he'll be traveling alongside you in spirit. Be happy and stay safe. I'll keep praying for the safety of you and your team. Take care and God Bless.

Sincerely,

Marjorie Sherman

Hey Bob and All!

So! The Wagonteamster becomes the Trail Master! Once again you have outdone yourself in the life journalism department! The cattle drive looked marvelous, even though I know it was a lot of hard work. I'm so glad you have Doc for these little projects of yours. Is Bill recovered from his part in the effort? How is Monty's training coming along? Keep us posted on all your other little projects as well!

Happy Trails,

Well, Time and Gravity always do win out, in the end. I'm sure Billy and Bob will have comfortable and happy retirements. These latest developments in the saga of the Wagonteamster brought some questions to mind: How old is Doc? I'm guessing 15, by looking back at the blog entries for the first trip (seems so long ago). And how is Joyce doing? Last I heard, she was enjoying life under saddle. I hope she's still well.

I'm looking forward to "meeting" the new team mates.

Dear Bob,
Old saying about "if you did not have bad luck, you would have no luck at all". Bill and Bob have done everything you ever ask of them and for that you
should be proud. I'm happy you decided to "retire" Bill and Bob. They have been a great pair of working class horses that I know you have grown to love
as all of us that have been following you and the three amigo's can testify too! Please take care of Doc too! He is no spring chicken and knowing him, he would
keep pulling until his heart gave out so maybe it's time to get some reinforcements. I will always remember my week I shared with all three of the horses and
will keep them as well as you in my prayers. Tonight, when you go out to feed, please whisper in Doc's ear and tell him "Bonnie still loves you the most and
give him a pat on the "butt" for a job well done. Please keep us posted on Bill's recovery.
Your friend,
Bonnie

Glad to see you understand geriatrics for horses. I think the guy on the street probably doesn't understand how delicately balanced the heavily muscled horses are. That's a lot of bone, sinew and muscle to keep moving. He might have been having trouble all along, to one degree or another, which is why he couldn't pull like Doc. Of course, I suspect, with Doc, it's a spiritual matter....he's got his eye on the prize. What a talented gentleman he is! I'd hope to see you soon with a new team so Bill and Bob can retire. Maybe you'll be teaching in the future or doing something like that. I know I've enjoyed learning from you about load levels for the team, forage and fodder, reading the horses (not reading TO the horses, though, that's an idea) for condition and fatigue, hoof care. You know a lot and I hope you pass it on. The conditioning, use and handling of draft horses is a lost art, almost. It used to be common knowledge when horses were all we had. Now, not one man in 100 knows the smallest thing about it. We'll just have to keep talking about it. Our local draft enthusiast, Mr. Phillips, up the road from Odessa, WA, where we live, has a team of young Clydesdale crosses. Their dams were black......were they Percheron? I hope I get a chance to talk to him sometime soon. Those colts look so wonderful, but still babies. I loved your segment training the team of Shires. I watched and watched the videos you posted. Lovely.

On the other hand Bob, you could get a forecart and a 4'X 8' utility trailer and make a ledge with hoops and a rain proof canvas cover, and make a relatively light weight, one horses Caravan, and make the trip with One Beautiful Grey Percheron??? Bigger then Bernie style, because you have a bigger horse. Just thinking.... grinning.

We passed you yesterday on 31 north of Paisley. We had just taken a tour of Fort Rock Cave where 11,000 year old sandals made of sagebrush bark were discovered in 1938. We were wondering about the horse droppings on the road, speculating that it had come from wild horses. Then we saw your rig. What a great adventure! Safe travels to you, and if you come down 97 in to California, you're welcome to stop at our farm in Macdoel. Just contact sleepingcreekranch@yahoo.com.

Bob, I just want to commend you for putting Bill's well-being above you plans. Right from the beginning I've always been impressed with how you care for, and treat your horses. Over the years, I've heard a few people express concerns about working them too hard etc. But I've always felt you take extremely good care of them and this just shows that. Everyone should treat their animals with the same level of respect.
Hopefully, you will be back on the road soon enough.
God be with you, Dottie

We have been waiting, Wagonteamster, patiently waiting. We are all looking forward to riding in the wagon, even sharing it with the dogs if need be. Our shotgun seat is all shined up and we are all bringing our virtual pillows and blankets to make it cozy and homey. It has been a long winter and a wet spring. We are really looking forward to those beautiful butts, shiny harness, alert ears, and gorgeous horse flesh clip clopping their song of the road. The scenery will be an extra thrown in. YeeeeHaaaaahhhhhh! Safe and blessed trip for us all.

Bob,
So glad your FINALLY going to be on the road again. I miss seeing pictures of the lads and beautiful senery. One question I do have is are you in contact with Tim the green teamster. He hasn't posted anything on his blog since December and stated how he'd been in the hospital and had no energy to do anything at all. I loved his stories and his horses too. Maybe you could look into this?

Have a SAFE journey and I'll be following every day.

Hi Bob,
Glad to hear your next adventure is about to start. Seems like forever waiting for this trip to get underway. Looking forward to the wonderful pictures you post and wonderful stories you tell. Safe travels and give "the Lads" a loving pat on the rump and an extra carrot.

Linda

The highway that runs from Oregon City south along the eastern side of the Willamette Valley through Woodburn and Mt. Angel to Salem is stunningly beautiful. After Mt. Angel, going south, there is Silverton (a town that time forgot) and the lovely Sublimity, so named by pioneers who knew exactly what they were seeing.

Hmm put that verification in and it was all over... How you doing Bob, Sounds like a nice trip, the northwest is really beautiful in the summer. Yea, that costal route while beautiful has a lot of traffic. I'm still in China, another year or so left. Then back to Florida I think... I miss my Jeep. Take care, I will see you one of these years... Jeff

Thrilled and inspired by you, your horses and journey!
On a very small note...I can't find link to download online book. I'm sure it's there I'm just a little 'blind' sometimes! Can you tell me where to find it?
Hope very much to meet you and see your rig sometime. Oh, and if ever you are in/near Scottsdale, Az I've got a six stall barn your welcome to rest horses in.
S :)
