What's your alltime favourite Frankie song?:

Drunken Nights In The City

What's your alltime favourite Frankie album?:

The Rock

Comments:

Hi Frankie, I saw you many times in Glasgow in your early and best days. The first was in Burns Howff, before I'd heard of you but heard you sing Shoo-rah and never forgot it. My sister played a tape to me in a restaurant in Byres Road a couple of years later and that was me hooked. My favourite song is Drunken Nights In The City, not just because it's a great song but it's about you and Jinky on the town. I also sing it at work every day. I wrote this wee poem for you and if you want to sing along to it to the tune of Drunken Nights, feel free. I hope you like it and it does you justice. Keep well Frankie and thanks for the music.

Frankie Miller (My Tribute). 9th June 2016.

Bar rooms and ladies, he knew them so well
Together, a cocktail of fun
One took him to Heaven, the other to Hell
But he just couldn’t figure which one
Fear he rejected, hope was his friend
Each day was another new page
Just a young man from Glasgow in search of a song
Life was just one massive stage.

He’d play like a demon, like an angel he’d sing
With a voice that was built on the Clyde
He fronted his band with bottle in hand,
The street kid was here to oblige
Once in a while, he’d give us that smile
With his hat perched where it belonged
He’d sing the sweetest of blues, he’d nothing to lose,
Let him sooth your soul with a song.

Before touring the States, he asked one of his mates
A best friend and the Celts Number One
Wee Jinky said Aye, well, he could not deny
This friend who made “Drunken Nights” fun
He wore the shirt every night to the Hoops fans delight
He was playing in his Paradise
But as most of us know, this man loved a show
And his brilliance came as no surprise.

His raw gutsy vocals encouraged the locals
To follow the great man’s career
I saw him in clubs, I saw him in pubs
In fact, any place, he appeared
Now gone is the voice, that sweet screaming noise
Five months in a coma he'd lain
But angel came down and put smiles on frowns
Will we ever hear his like again?

I felt I was blessed because I saw the best
An opinion that’s not just my own
He wrote songs while in bars for the world’s greatest stars
Not bad for Glasgow’s homegrown
The legends agreed he was right up to speed,
His music was his real love affair
If you measure success by being the best
I’d say Frankie, you’re already there.

Paul Colvin.

What's your alltime favourite Frankie song?:

too many to choose just one.....

What's your alltime favourite Frankie album?:

Full House

Comments:

Frankie has been one of favourite singers for years ever since I picked up his first album "Once In A Blue Moon"! I made it a point to pick every album he released after that! What a voice!!....and what a SONGWRITER!! I was never privileged to see Frankie perform 'live' before his unfortunate 'health issues'....but have been able to track down several of his shows on video....which I quite enjoy! Cheers, Frankie!!

I only have 2 albums, Long Way Home and a compilation. I bought Long Way Home a few years ago in Australia and it is really good. I live in Zimbabwe where there are no shops where cd's and albums can be bought and even in neighboring South Africa the music shops stock mainly mainstream pop these days. However
I also have the Thin Lizzy album Nightlife with still in Love with You on it. Lizzy were my Favourite band growing up so I have all their albums.

Frankie's story is inspiring and the release of Long Way Home via Joe Walsh and friends is touching. I will certainly attempt to obtain more of Frankie's albums in my travels.
