INFORMATION FROM PETER YEATES HONG KONG FLOTILLA ASSOCIATION association
we have as one of our honoured members John Soanes your chairman. He contributes greatly with his experience and know-how
in working together with our little association. I say litte, and it is.But Gosh it is vibrant, and alive, and so active. We have over 100 members but we are supporting by families, down to grandsons, daughters, sons, grandaughters, and loads of friends of the Flotilla, they take an active part and liven up our Reunions. Actually our Reunions are more like a rave party for old people. Next one is October 4th to 7th 2013 SPECIAL EVENT -
at the Grand Atlantic Hotel Weston Super Mare Somerset. My number is 01179602898 and you have my email. If you served in Hong Kong in Tamar then join us, if you did not then come anyway. We have in our midst our esteemed member CPO Ron Walsh WW2 Veteran survivor of the Foylebank incident. In 1940 Ordinary Seaman Ron Walsh was on HMS Foylebank in Portland Harbour as Porrtland's defence ship. An attack of 26 Stukas sank the ship after 22 direct hits. Ron survived, but his war was not over. Atlantic convoy duty on HMS Bulldog among the U-boat packs, the invasion of North Africa, Gold Beach on D-Day for Operation Overlord...Ron Walsh served on 55 ships and naval establishments in a 33 year career with the Navy, until retirement in 1969.
But more than that Ron at the age of 35 was Coxswain of ML 3512 Hong Kong Flotilla, and served with this National Serviceman, aged 18.
So if you are interested we would love to see you at our Reunion in October.

Bravo Zulu for a well organised event on 14th May. I really enjoyed meeting all those that I spoke to, albeit I knew very few. It was nice to see the wives supporting the hubbies and putting up with yet more repeated "sea stories" So, once again thanks to all for a lovely couple of hours, especially so to our host HRH Prince Charles.......and not forgetting his wonderful serving/hosting personnel..BZ to them also.

HMS Fiskerton

Comments:

Hi
Just found the site while bored and browsing. Fiskerton seems a long time ago, I was first on the list to jump ship when the confrontaton with Indonesia ended.
I know they kept some of the crew to steam her home. It would be interesting to find out what happened to everyone.I was the ships sparker and we used to pick
up a couple of wxtra sparkers from the fleet poole when we went out on patrol .... Happy days.

Hi there - is there any news on HMS Bronington? I'm interested in her from the HMS Humber point of view, my Dad served on her in the Fifties and I was on board many times as a child. It didn't even occur to me that she still existed until I came across some rather depressing pictures on Flickr. M1115 was even born in the same town as me!
Regards
Robbie Pennington

Great site. Came across this while resaerching some information for a paper I was writing. Brought back memories of serving on exchange with the RNR in 1974 and my time in the Canadian Bay Class sweepers.
