I became a baseball fan while in college in 1977. The University of Arkansas couldn't get TV reception up in the Ozarks, so they had cable for the dorms. One of the first areas, I believe, to have cable. At least Dallas, TX, where I'm from, didn't have it yet. I fell in love with Ernie. He was my teacher of the great game and made me feel like he was my friend, too. I miss his voice, along with Skip's, every day. True greatness!
I grew up in Fayetteville, GA, and as a kid, I would fall asleep each night listening to Ernie call the games on the radio. Even though I'm 44 now, I can still hear Ernie's voice.

A class act who richly deserves the Ford Frick award!
I can never thank Ernie enough for letting me experience his character and integrity which shone so brightly during his broadcasts. As well, he was a great baseball man who taught me his love of the game. I first began to listen to him on the radio during the late 60's in Charlotte and wish him the best. He is a special man who deserves enshrinement in the Baseball Hall of Fame.
I grew up in Atlanta watching the Braves and listening to you, Skip and Pete and you made those non-winning and winning years a lot of fun. Your wit and humor were priceless on those broadcasts and I am sure you haven't let up!!
Hope you are doing well and thanks for the memories.
Best Regards and Go Braves!!
Lawrence
ps- I wonder if Skip is having to explain the infield fly rule to those in the great beyond??!! ;-p
Man I miss Ernie, Pete and Skip. I haven't seen or heard Ernie in a couple of years, hope he is doing well. I wish he would do a couple of games this year. Love it when a pitch was right down the middle of the plate he would say "that pitch was right down right down peachtree", and if someone used the word "if" Ernie would comment "if your aunt ester had a mustache she would be your uncle Fred". Ernie was the best, hope to see him soon.
