I enjoy your site. Thanks for giving me a taste of your town. I'm researching John Mulvey, son of Thomas Mulvey and Ellen Bohan, who left in 1836 to come to Canada. John became a prominent merchant in Toronto and his son Thomas became the highest ranking civil servant in Canada in the 1920s. The Mulvey home in Toronto is now a theatre called the Factory Theatre.

John Mulvey and his brother-in-law Michael Murphy co-founded the Hibernian Society here. Michael Murphy supported the unsuccessful Fenian invasion of Canada in 1866.

Mohill produces interesting people.

Looking for information on a Catherine McKeon. Born Circa 1877 Gurtnagullion Killnagross. She married Thomas Ward about 1908. A son John was born 1910 he went to America about 1927. there was 6 other children born later I believe. Catherine and Thomas moved to live in Roscommon where they bought a farm and raised their family. I don't know when they moved there. They had a young family though. Her husband was around 51 or so when he died. I'd love to hear something-anything about Catherine as she was my great grandmother. I would be most grateful for any information and I thank you in advance. L.Bowie

Catherine M. Mulvey - I am looking for any relatives of William Mulvey born 1882 died WW1 1918 in Bray Co. Wicklow, he married Catherine Bernes (Byrne) in 1907. His father was James Mulvey and Julia Hayden who was born and married in Bray 4/3/1868 his father was also James born in Co. Westmeath around 1818 and I believe the family moved from the Mohill area to Westmeath sometime before his birth.

I am researching my ancestors - MAHON family of Leitrim and hope someone can add information to my research.

Thomas William MAHON & Mary Ann DUIGNAN/DONEGAN/DONNIGAN/DOONIGAN were married 17 Nov. 1851 at Mohill.
I am unable to find any more information regarding Thomas and Mary Ann. I am hoping that someone will be able to help me here.

Their children , it seems were

Anna 31.10.1852
Mary/Maria 16 Dec 1853
Patrick 16.02.1856
Bridget 16.09.1858
Theresa 09.03.1862
Catherine 27/07/1864
Elizabeth 21.09.1866
John 09.03.1869
Thomas 26 Jul.1871
Elizabeth 21.01.1874
Ellen 30 Sep 1877

My great grandmother - Kate (Catherine) MAHON came to Australia 1st Aug 1888, following her older sister Maria MAHON who arrived in Australia 11th July 1873.

I would be delighted to make contact with any descendants of this family and happy to share the research that I have.
