Hi, what a coincidence, I was just looking for some stuff on Workington when I found my way to your interesting site. my late father John G Barnes was from memory born into a house in Church Street Workington. I have no idea or knowledge of any family history, particularly since I have grown up around Birmingham. A few years I did meet another Barnes family who live around the Whittington are of Staffordshire and who also apparently hail from Workington area so the name seems to be well used in the area. my only remaining family are two cousins who still live in the area. i lived at westfield as a kid so all the pics of steelworks reminded me laying in bed at night listening to all the noises coming from the works gone but not forgotten! great memories.
